Pound Ridge Ranks No. 6 in New York in Golfweek’s ‘Best Courses You Can Play’

Pound Ridge Golf Club, Hole 10

Pound Ridge Golf Club is ranked No. 6 in “Golfweek’s Best: State-by-State Courses You Can Play,” and in the top 10 for the eighth straight year.

Ascending two spots from its No. 8 ranking in 2016, Pound Ridge Golf Club debuted on Golfweek’s prestigious annual list in 2009, only a year after the course’s opening. It has been honored consecutively in the top 10 New York courses since then. The course is the only in the state designed by legendary golf architect Pete Dye.

“We are tremendously grateful for Golfweek’s continued recognition of Pound Ridge year after year,” says Ken Wang, owner of Pound Ridge. “All of the wonderful challenges Dye created, combined with our staff’s unending commitment to grooming the course, makes for an unforgettable experience both avid and recreational players will relish.”

Golfweek's ranking panel consists of 675 voters from seven countries who rely on 10 criteria to rate a golf course, including overall land plan, variety and memorability of golf holes, conditioning and ecology, and the "walk in the park test," which rates the sense of the course as worthy of spending four hours on it. The number of courses per state varies based on course supply, population and level of play; and the Golfweek rankings include daily-fee layouts and golf courses accessible via resorts.

Pound Ridge is transformed from 172 acres of beautiful New York countryside – including dramatic cliffs, streams and wooded, rolling hills into a fun and challenging par-72 course. The course features five sets of tees ranging from 5,151 to 7,165 yards, and provides challenges for golfers of all skill levels. Among its unforgettable holes is the dramatic par-5 13th which is home to “Pete’s Rock,” a giant boulder that rests in the middle of the fairway.
